Onkyo is famous with heating issue. No doubt on Onkyo SR 606 but as long as you use it in air conditioned room, you should be safe. And if possible, get a Voltage regulator to regulate the input power for the AVR. Most Onkyo users recommend the use of computer fans to further cool down the temperature.
Sound test out from the box feels a little bit on the Flat side when compared to Denon and Marantz. Surround sound is not as distinctive as Denon and Marantz although it gives a bit more detail which is hardly audible if not paying attention to. One good thing about SR606 is the price vs features. You pay less but you get more on features and power if compared to Denon and Marantz. However, you have to really take good care of the temperature in extended usage.
